What is RAC?

The Reinforcement & Accountability Center is a place for all students to feel safe and supported in their commitment to become better leaders through academics, behavior, and stability. As an integral branch of Student Services within Valley Life Charter Schools, we operate under the guidance and oversight of our Special Education Program.

Why Reinforcement & Accountability Center?

Depending on the culture of the school, there can be an overemphasis on either positive reinforcement or accountability. Some schools focus too much on rewards and neglect accountability, while others emphasize consequences, leading to disengaged students with no goals.

At VLCS, we believe in real solutions through a balanced approach. Behavior science shows that to increase a behavior, it should be rewarded, and to decrease a behavior, appropriate consequences are needed. Our unique blend of Reinforcements & Accountability ensures true intervention by combining rewards and consequences in a structured implementation.

Our Approach

All behavior is a form of communication. Students behave in certain ways because those behaviors serve a purpose for them. Our goal is not only to teach students right from wrong but also to replace old behaviors with new skills, so students no longer need the old behaviors. By creating a structured environment where students learn through the results of their actions, rewards teach that new behaviors are valuable, and consequences show that old behaviors need to change.

Our Mission

We are committed to fostering a community where all students feel valued and empowered to achieve their full potential. Through our proactive and compassionate approach, we strive to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students, helping them navigate and overcome obstacles with confidence and resilience. As a part of VLCS’s Student Services team, we aim to support the holistic development of our students by providing comprehensive behavioral support and intervention.
